Starting 11-29-07 the pages on the pghconnect servers will no longer be available. I will attempt to place a redirect message on there. The QSL.net and Geocities (Yahoo) sites will still be available and maintained. The third site will now be on Verizon. The URL for these pages is http://mysite.verizon.net/k3fss All of these pages will be maintained and uploaded at the same time. Please do not try to use the Pghconnect pages as they will no longer be.

I have uploaded all of the pages, and files to the new site already. Or, at least I think I uploaded all of them.

Also note that my email address has also changed. I will attempt to upload all of the pages with the correct email address. I am hoping to get this done tomorrow before that email address is no longer functional. There may be a chance that email addresses on the web pages will be wrong for the next day or two. Allegheny County has taken over dispatching for Plum Boro fire departments. Allegheny County is dispatching them on 33.860.

Home Depot by Century III Mall is using 467.7625 DPL 065 simplex for operations.

Allegheny County - Mon Valley Fire

The new Allegheny County Mon Valley fire freq is getting more active. 471.3125 PL 110.9 Repeater is getting more users. I've been hearing Glassport #1 using it for operations. Versailles fire units have been active on it as well. Liberty VFD ran a pager test, and sounds like they should be active on it any time as well. Departments are starting to get the equipment and leave the old 33.800 CSQ simplex system

Antenna work

I've been busy doing some antenna work.

I have a a Radio Shack discone that I needed to repair. I wasn't watching what I was doing a couple of years ago, and managed to break off a radial. I got it threaded back on, but it fell of this winter. I replaced that radial, and replaced the coax with LMR 400.

I have an old Antenna Specialist scanner antenna (Mon ???) on a 5 ft mast. I put that on a 10ft mast and changed the coax to LMR 400.

I got a new discone at a hamfest. I put that up on a 10ft mast and used LMR 400 on that as well.

I do have some improvement with the LMR 400. I can now hear Westmoreland County's 800 system. I do have to say, that stuff is a bear to work with. It is by far the toughest stuff to work with. I don't enjoy putting connectors on, and this made it worst. Its done now, so when I get some better antennas to replace the discones most of the work is already done.

The odd thing with this is, its the exact same freq AND DPL as South Hills Village. Neither is strong enough to be heard at the other location. Just the same, just odd that the same DPL was picked at both sites.

464.8625 - PL 103.5 - Repeater - WL Roegnigk. This appears to be a new frequency for buses in the Pittsburgh area.

467.850 - PL 118.8 - Simplex - I am certain that this is the Wyndham in Oakland. Front desk to house keepers. In the down town area there is another hotel using this freq with PL 103.5. I have not been able to ID that hotel as yet.

151.715 - PL 94.8 - Simplex - Holiday Inn Express South Side shuttles.

461.375 - DPL 025 - Repeater - Thomas Jefferson high school operations

461.375 - DPL 432 - Repeater - Security company for many locations around the city. They provide security for Lemington Heights Apartments, Mid Town Towers, Highview (located on Duquesne Place in Duquesne), and some other locations. I'm trying to track down the companies name.

I was doing some searching tonight in the 461 - 462 area. It was busy on many frequencies with buses transporting teams, and bands to games. Searching the 461.000 - 470.000 area may turn up some interesting things during football season.

Football Scanning

Football season is just about to begin. Here are some scanning tips to monitoring the action of Steelers and Pitt football games.

Heinz Field :
Heinz Field is on the City Of Pittsburgh TRS system. You can leave it as type II and program in the talkgroups, and close the bank. The fleet map for the City of Pittsburgh TRS with Heinz Field is Block 0 S 12, Block 2 S 12, Block 4 S 4, Block 5 S 4, Block 6 S 0, and Block 7 S 3. You will want to close the bank to receive only these talkgroups.

In addition to the TRS they use 461.550 PL 218.1 simplex with security outside of the stadium.

NFL :
The NFL is licensed to several frequencies. I have monitored a few at the games. It appears they have a pair (Input / output) for every team for the quarter back radios. These radios run as a repeater (low power) so that the NFL can cut it off when rules state. These radios are also voice inversion scrambled, so you really can't understand what they are saying. They also use freqs to coordinate game day activities. NFL freqs I have been able to confirm :

It is not possible to monitor the coaches. The NFL uses a proprietary system made by Telex (even though they have Motorola on the head sets), called the Lombardi system.

Pitt will also use these frequencies at games :

453.800 - PL 103.5 - Buses (Repeater)
468.875 - DPL 263 - Athletics

Those freqs are mainly coordinating activities around the field (cheerleaders, band, stats, equipment, and on field activities. Again it is not possible to monitor the coaches

Search around, there is plenty to find.

Aleppo Fire

I have finally been able to confirm Aleppo VFD is using 495.5125 DPL 606 (North - Ohio Fire Ch. 2) for dispatch and operations. I have heard County Communications cross patch them to the North Boros fire channel when responding with those agencies.

Aleppo Fire

I have heard Aleppo Fire (Station 101) operating a couple of calls on UHF. They have been operating on the Northwest Ohio fire Ch. 2 (495.5125 D606). I have not been able to catch a dispatch yet to see if that has switched to UHF as well. Allegheny County has run a patch between the UHF freq and VHF North Boros frequencies for them.

It was recently noted that Kennywood is now running a repeater. I have confirmed that Kenny wood is now using a repeater on 152.465 PL 107.2. Not sure of the input freq. Users on this include operations, mechanics, and electrician

Mon Valley Fire

I have now confirmed Dravosburg (Station 131), and Forward Twp Fire departments being dispatched on 471.3125.

Forward Twp departments are using 471.0875 as their operations channel. Allegheny County Dispatch is on that frequency with them.

I am not sure what frequency Elizabeth Boro or Dravosburg are using for operations. I have not heard their units responding on 471.3125 except for Elizabeth Boro (Station 139), did call out on 471.3125.

Allegheny County - East New Fire Frequency

471.3125 PL 110.9 has gone live today.

Allegheny County has started disptach and operations of fire departments in the Mon Valley area on this frequency. Toady I have confirmed Elizabeth Boro, and Elizabeth Twp fire departments have switched over. Other departments are expected to switch over when they get the equipment. Eventually phasing out 33.800.

Allegheny County East - New Fire Frequency

Look for the new fire frequency for the MonValley area to become active within the next week or so.

471.3125 PL 110.9 - This is a repeater.

The Elizabeth Township fire departments have been very active on this freq for some time. They have been running calls on this, with Allegheny County communications answering them. Dispatch and operations will officially begin soon on this channel. There has been a lot of testing by County of pagers and sirens on the freq.

I understand that all departments have purchased new radios, so not all departments will make the switch. There may still be activity on 33.860 and 33.800 from departments in that area.

Allegheny County East

I was also sent some more detailed information on the East zone frequencies. They rarely refer to the channel numbers on the air, so I'm unable to cinfirm this. I do believe this came from a reliable source, so here is the information on the east zone.

I was sent this list of freqs for the North Boros departments a while ago. I have not been able to confirm these, and due to their nature may not be able to. They are simplex, and they are also fire operations channels. So they get used rarely, and they are simplex. A tough combination to confirm from the South Hills. So here they are.

Allegheny County Dispatch - South

Animal Control for all south areas is now only on 460.425 PL 131.8. This is South, Southwest Police 3.

Mt. Lebanon was using 472.175 to dispatch animal control for their town. This is being dispatched by County on 460.425 now.

The use of Station 520 is new to me. The 520 units came on after Harrison Fire Police dispatched to assist with traffic control for the accident on Rt 28 tonight.

I'm sure there are more changes on this system. I'll keep an ear out on it. I suspect that all departments have completed the move from 33.860 to 460.1625 or 471.5625.

Allegheny County North Zone Correction

Michael, N3JNL pointed out a typo I had made. In the Allegheny County North Zone, Police Ch. 1, 471.5875. O'Hara police is listed as #3300 and #3400.

O'Hara Township Police is #3300
Reserve Township Police is #3400

This will be corrected on the next update. The frequency listing has it correct.

Allegheny County - South EMS Operations is active today. 453.125 PL 131.8. Station 530 is using this for their Fourth Of July operations.

Mt. Lebanon FD Tones

For those who have fire tone out capabilities, Mt. Lebanon FD has changed their still alarm tones. The new tones are 1781.5hz/349.0hz

Allegheny County Dispatch By Zones Updated

The Allegheny County Dispatch By Zones page has been updated. This update includes changes made with moving of South Hills Regional ring down center to Allegheny County Dispatch.

Mt. Lebanon PD

Mt. Lebanon Police is now using unit numbers 4100 on the Allegheny County South Police system.

Allegheny County - South Dispatch

South Hills Regional Ring Down will stop operations tomorrow morning, June 27, at 0700. The changes for the former South Hills Regional Ring Down will be as below.

Old SH fire dispatch 6 (460.600 PL 88.5) will still be the dispatch channel for Castle Shannon (Sta 119), Dormont (Sta 130), and Mt. Lebanon (Sta 198). This will however be linked to 460.400, and use 465.400 as the input. All traffic will be simulcasted on both sites, Pleasant Hills (460.400), and Mt. Lebanon (460.600).

Old SH fire ops 7 (460.625 PL 192.8) will remain as the response channel for those departments. No changes at all to this frequency

The Fire tac channels will be changed to countywide fire tacs.
FD Tac 1 - 453.3125 PL 186.2
FD Tac 2 - 453.3375 PL 186.2
FD Tac 3 - 453.5375 PL 186.2
All are simplex.

Old SH police (460.200 PL 131.8) will now be linked to the South police channels, and will use 465.075 PL 131.8 for the input. The South police zone will now be simulcasted over three sites, Jefferson (460.075), Baldwin (460.350) and Mt. Lebanon (460.200).

Harrison And Fawn Twp Police

Harrison And Fawn Twp have moved to 460.2875 DPL 023. Allegheny County, Harrison, and Fawn are no longer using 155.250 and 155.055.

Idlewild Frequencies

Frequencies I found to be active at Idlewild Park today.

151.865 - PL 107.2 - Rides, Water Park, Ops, Maintenance, Electricians, Grounds
154.515 - PL 107.2 - Catering. They also were carrying around UHF FRS radios.
157.695 - PL 107.2 - Public Safety

The Scan Links Update includes removal of all dead links I have found. I have added some links. I am not done with my search for new Live Audio Scanner sites, and will add more soon. I will also be going through my stats pages and add any referring links that I don't have listed. I will post a link to any page (in good taste) that links to my page.

The Allegheny County Dispatch By Zones update includes the new linking for South Police 1 on 460.075 and 460.350. There ought to be more changes in this zone in the next week or two.

The Start Of The K3FSS Blog

I am going to try using this Blog as a way to publish new frequencies and changes until I can get the updates on my web site. There are so many changes going on in Allegheny County that it is hard to keep up with

I have gotten some feed back that some would like an RSS feed for the changes, and hopefully this will work for that. I will post on here when pages to the site have been updated. I will be keeping the updates pages. I have been trying out a forums type layout for this purpose. But looking at the stats for that, it is not used. Perhaps this layout will be easier to use and will serve its purpose better. I will add a link to all web site pages to the blog soon (I hope).
