Uniden 436 Receiving issue

There has been some confirmation on the Yahoo Scanner Radio Discussion for DFW regarding the 436 reception issue.

Blaine: One version of the main board had a noise issue that caused poor VHF/UHF performance. One way to see if this is the case is to just put a remote antenna on the scanner. If VHF/UHF improves, then that is likely the issue. There is a big thread at RadioReference where this has been discussed (Missing C1 capacitor might be a keyword for finding it...or poor VHF performance).

We'll fix it at no cost if that is the issue. If that happens not to be the issue, there would be a charge (i.e. if bandpass filter is blown).

If you bought your 436 less than a year ago, or have sent it in for the repair campaign in the past year, your radio should be good. For older radios with poor VHF and UHF reception, this repair would fix the issue. Nothing was stated on whether Uniden would cover shipping one way, or both ways for this defect.

Still no word on the advertised features that have not been released yet.

Whistler announces NXDN upgrade

This is good news. There is some public safety use of NXDN north of Pittsburgh, and one local agency currently working on implementing it.

It is also nice to see a company deliver what they announce, in the time frame they said they would. Uniden has yet to release the advanced analysis features that were announced years ago for the BCD436HP and BCD536HP.

Pittsburgh TRS

The old Pittsburgh Motorola TRS system control channel has been off the air for a few days now. All users have migrated to the DMR Capacity Plus system except for animal control. The old system has been deleted.

Animal control is now using Pittsburgh police Ch. 6 Admin, 453.950 PL 225.7, Unit #6--.

K3CSF/R on the air

K3CSF/R - 440.600 PL 131.8 is on the air. Echo link node 77119. This is located on the Castle Shannon Boro building. The repeater is on the air thanks in large part to Paul AB3PJ.

Pittsburgh DMR Trunked System

DMR

Whistler released its final and fully supported DMR upgrade for their 1080, 1088, 1095 and 1098 scanners. this is a free upgrade for those scanners. These radios will not be able to be upgraded for NXDN. This was released as was expected at the end of the month. This makes Whistler the first scanner company to release a fully supported DMR, trunking upgrade.

The Whistler TRX-1 and TRX-2 radios will have DMR, and are to be updated to include NXDN in September. Theses radios were announced to be available at the end of July.
